You can ride a camel, climb sahara dunes, sift cinnamon-and-sugar sand through your fingers, enjoy magnificent views, and spend the night in a tent or beneath the stars on the wonderful Erg Chigaga desert tour. Another well-known set of saharan dunes are the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. The Erg Chebbi dunes are more well-known, covering a 50-kilometer expanse and rising up to 150 meters in certain places. To spend the night in a conventional hotel room or a luxurious tent before exploring the Merzouga desert and its surrounds during the day, there are hotels along the edge of the desert.
We begin our two-day Marrakech Sahara desert tour to M'hamid driving through the spectacular High Atlas mountains (2260m) and their breathtaking views, as well as through the Draa Valley, crossing the second pass, Tizi N'Tnifift (1710m), which was once the route of caravans for Sahara traders coming from "Tombouktou." On our way to Zagora, we'll get the chance to visit the world's largest palm grove. we'll stop to see the underground kasbah and Koran library of old Tamegroute before we arrive in M'hamid. We spend the night in nomad tents at a Berber camp in the Erg Lihoudi sand dunes.
Wake up early morning to watch mesmerizing sunrise shining across the dunes. Back to the bivouac for a traditional breakfast. After breakfast, take a camel ride back to Mhamid, where we'll catch our 4WD vehicle and travel via the Draa valley to Agdz, exploring the region's real treasures. The trip continues to Ait Benhaddou, a fortified Ksar with exquisite Kasbahs. We'll go there to have lunch at one of the local restaurants. We drive back to Marrakech in the afternoon via the High Atlas Mountains. We will arrive at around 6:00 PM.
