You can ride a camel, climb sahara dunes, sift cinnamon-and-sugar sand through your fingers, enjoy magnificent views, and spend the night in a tent or beneath the stars on the wonderful Erg Chigaga desert tour. Another well-known set of saharan dunes are the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. The Erg Chebbi dunes are more well-known, covering a 50-kilometer expanse and rising up to 150 meters in certain places. To spend the night in a conventional hotel room or a luxurious tent before exploring the Merzouga desert and its surrounds during the day, there are hotels along the edge of the desert.
The departure is at 8:00 A.M by four wheel vehicle from Ouarzazat. We take the road alongside Draa Valley toward the desert. We pass by beautiful landscapes and lovely little villages along the way. Lunch will be in the way in a special place and then taking the road to Zagora city. We will have the opportunity to visit clay workshops as well as visiting the Coranic library and attend demonstration about this ancient place organized by local sponsors.
We take the road to M’hamid crossing over landscapes. By the end of the afternoon we will have arrived in M’hamid and exactly to our fixed bivouac (2km away from the village) at the very first dunes for tea break and then observing the sunset.
Dinner will be served at the bivouac and sleeping under the tents.
We make the departure from M’hamid by four wheel vehicle. The journey will last approximately 2 hours; after about one hour, we make a stop at the sacred oasis for stretching legs and taking beautiful pictures. We continue our joy ride to arrive at the large dunes. After a short break at the camp, we head toward the largest dunes for witnessing the enjoyable sunset. As soon as the sun disappears, we come back to our camp for unforgettable evening where will be tea, traditional music around the fire circle, and then a delicious dinner is served to call off the night.
After having breakfast, you will have the opportunity to ride camels for one hour. And then we head the road crossing over Iriki lake to access to Foum Z’guid where we will have lunch break and then we continue to Taznaght (the carpet making home) and by the end of the afternoon, we will have arrived in Ouarzazat.
